The Sand Archive

Before becoming part of In Dialogue with Sand, my artistic practice, every sand sample begins its journey in this archive. Each bottle preserves a fragment of a landscape, carefully collected, identified, and protected. Together, they form a living archive of places, memories, and geological histories.

Presented within Fort Ertbrand, a place where heritage is preserved and passed on, the archive reflects another form of stewardship. Just as monuments are entrusted to those who care for them, these grains are entrusted to my care, carrying the memory of landscapes that continue to change through time, natural processes, and human intervention.

The archive is not simply a collection of sand but an act of care: preserving, documenting, and passing on the stories held within every grain.
